Laidlaw Schools Trust asked us to tie a number of teaching and learning strategies into categorised sections in a way that would be fun and memorable for both pupils and staff. The designs needed to be informative, friendly and fun, appealing to several age groups and key stages of a pupil’s school life. We created a fun and friendly animal to go with the title word in each strategy, from the Ambitious Ant through to the Curious Monkey and many more in between.

Although the animals would be 2 dimensional printed illustrations, we designed each character with the purpose of being interactive, creating multiple poses that could be put in various places around each school. By incorporating questions or tasks into the illustrations, we could get the children and staff more involved with the characters. Each character had a different question, fun fact or task to accomplish that related directly to who they were and what they do, making the learning experience a lot more enjoyable and memorable. The animals were then placed around each school doing different tasks, for example directing visitors or giving children and staff information.

Laidlaw Schools Trust were delighted with the colourful characters we had created and asked us to create more variations on the theme.

These fun, cheeky, and playful animals will be used to great effect throughout the schools. They serve as both educational and playful items that can be expanded into many other areas of the school strategies and curriculums.

The animals serve as a reminder that school and education should be a fun and memorable time of any child’s life. The animals help children, their parents and their guardians enjoy the learning process at every stage of school life. Hopefully they will be remembered with fondness as they reminisce of their time with Laidlaw Schools Trust.
