What is Google Drive?

Google has finally pushed out its hotly rumoured Google Drive, allowing you to store all of your documents, music, photographs etc online. But what is Google Drive?

Basically, it’s a beefed-up version of Google Docs which works in the same way as the ever popular dropbox. It gives you up to 5GB of space for free and you can use it through a variety of different devices such as smartphones, as well as the iPad and other tablet devices (although you have to use a web browser at the moment). It automatically syncs with your mobile devices and desktop computer, so you can alter anything on one gadget and then get the amended information on another. It creates a history of your changes too, so if you alter a document, you can still go back over the last 30 days to see your revisions.

Dropbox is most people’s first choice when it comes to cloud storage. However, it only gives you 2GB for free against Google’s 5gb, and many people already access Google’s services. Will these Google users turn to Google Drive automatically instead of going with yet another different service? For us, 5GB seems pretty generous, so we’re going to try Google Drive. We’ll let you know how we get on.
